The HTC EVO 4G LTE is now pre-ordered! It shall be mine!
0It’s that time! It’s been almost two years since I picked up my original HTC EVO 4G. Today at 9:00 am, I pre-ordered the HTC EVO 4G LTE.
Btw, Sprint, that really is just a terrible, horrible name. Seriously. Can I smack whoever does your marketing? Please? HTC started this whole “One” thing for a reason and here you go, not getting it.
Anyways, name aside, I’m super excited for this bit of geek toyness.
A dual-core 1.5 Ghz Snapdragon processor is gonna provide lots of power. Basically this thing is specced as the HTC One X, though with a few differences. One, it’s a completely different body, which is a mixed bag for me. I really like the look of the One X, but there was no kickstand, and I think I’ve been spoiled by that. The new EVO does come with the kickstand, but the squared off shape just seems lacking. Still, I really like that this kickstand is said to support the phone no matter which way it’s facing.
Anyways, I’m gonna wrap this up shorter than I planned, cause I’m sick as a dog with a cold right now. The last thing I want to say though, is that Sprint better get on that LTE rollout. I’m once again purchasing a 4G capable phone, in an area with no 4G service, and no date as to when that service is supposed to be rolled out. Yes, I know they say “nationwide” coverage by the end of 2013, but who knows if that will keep.
Here’s hoping that they really do it, and it’s on par with AT&T and Verizon’s service!
Sony NEX-5N, My noobish thoughts
2Photography’s always been something that I’ve had a mild interest in. I never could actually do anything about that interest, due to my lack of a real camera.
Well lately I’ve decided it was time to correct that situation, so I am now the owner of a Sony NEX-5N mirrorless camera. And let me tell you, this thing is well worth the cash I dropped for it.
Seeing that the only thing I’ve had to take pictures with up till now is my cameraphone, the word upgrade seems a bit of an understatement.
So, how about getting some specs out there.
This camera is rocking a 16.1 megapixel APS-C sensor, 10 fps continuous shooting mode, up to 1080 / 60p AVCHD video capture, a touch-enabled 3-inch LCD, and a maximum ISO of 25,600.
It has arrived, the Kindle Touch
0Well after waiting almost two months, my Kindle Touch finally arrived a couple days ago. I’ve spent the time playing with the device, and of course digging into some books that I’d bought.
I must say I’m very pleased with the experience I’ve had.
Now, keep in mind this is my first e-reader, so I really don’t have anything to compare to. The size feels just right. It just sorta fits in my hand. I’m also very easily able to hold the Kindle one handed, and tap to turn pages. Makes it very easy to read while I’m eating or drinking something.
Geek Toy of the Week – Galaxy Nexus / Ice Cream Sandwich
0
A twofer this time! Samsung and Google finally officially unveiled their Galaxy Nexus handset, which also means they’ve unveiled Ice Cream Sandwich, aka Android 4.0!
This thing looks gorgeous! 4.65 inch, 1280 x 720 screen, 1.2Ghz dual core processor, 7.2mm thin. I am drooling, just drooling.
Kindle(r) Thoughts
0Yes, I went there with the title. Never pass up a bad pun I say.
So hey, guess what today was. Go on, guess. That’s right, it’s Kindle Day! Or it should be anyways. Amazon made their big announcements about the Kindle line-up, and boy was it an exciting day. So here’s my thoughts on the whole thing.
$79 Kindle
Yes, you read that right, the base model Kindle clocks in at $79. If this doesn’t make you buy, nothing will. Now, there have been some sacrifices to hit this price point. This version is sans touchscreen, and thus has physical buttons for turning pages, menu, home screen and such.
I think it’s awesome that Amazon has not only dropped below the $100 price point, but really blown by it full force with this entry level Kindle. I was seriously considering just going for this cheapest model, but the geek in me objected to a couple things.
One, I really like touchscreens. Two, and sorta related, is that without a physical keyboard or a touchscreen, the keyboard entry is most like what you have with your game console, in that you have to use the arrow keys to select individual letters from the onscreen keyboard. Bleh.
Now really, I’m sure I could have gotten around that, but the extra features on the next level up pulled me in, and so we go to…
